The first full weekend of December has arrived and there is plenty of things to do across Rhode Island. 

This weekend’s events include Smithfield’s All Lit Up Christmas Parade, the 2019 Gran Prix of Cyclocross, and Providence College takes on the University of Rhode Island in basketball.

PC vs URI Basketball at The Ryan Center 

The rivalry renews. 

The Providence College Friars head down to the Ryan Center to battle the University of Rhode Island Rams. 

The Friars won last season's game at the Dunkin' Donuts Center, however, the Rams won the previous matchup at the Ryan Center. 

The Friars enter the game with a record of 5-4 overall, while the Rams are 5-3 overall. 

Gae time is set for 7 p.m.

Wreath-Making Workshop at Blithewold Mansion

Blithewold’s Garden Manager Gail Read and Horticulturist Betsy Eckholm’s design ideas and assembly tips will guide you in creating one-of-a-kind holiday wreaths.

Attendees will be able to choose your greens from a wide variety of plant material, much of which is pre-cut from Blithewold’s collection of unique evergreens.

Smithfield’s All Lit Up Christmas Parade at Smithfield High School

This year the parade features approximately 60 groups, which can be a simple group walking to large truck and trailer floats.

The parade winds through our community and ends at the Greenville Common where there will be a Lighting of the Green ceremony.

The Lighting of the Green has been a Smithfield Staple since the early 1960’s.

The event begins a 4:30 p.m.

2019 Gran Prix of Cyclocross at Goddard Memorial State Park

With its technical twists and turns, daunting rooty descents and legendarily long sections of sandy shoreline, the rugged off-road course at Goddard Memorial State Park will once again aim to showcase the essence of cyclocross in New England at the 15th annual NBX Gran Prix of ‘Cross, a mainstay of the Vittoria Northeast Cyclocross Series.

Nancy Kerrigan at Providence Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Bank Newport City Center

Two-time Olympic medalist Nancy Kerrigan will host the Providence Christmas tree lighting ceremony that is set to take place this weekend at the BankNewport City Center.

Following the tree lighting ceremony, there will be an ice skating show featuring champion figure skaters.

The 60-minute skating show will also feature 2014 Olympic Bronze Medalist Ashley Wagner, 2018 National Silver Medalist Ross Miner, and Rhode Island’s very own 2014 Olympic Bronze Medalist, Marissa Castelli.

They will be joined by World Theatre on Ice Medalists, Ocean State Ice Theatre, National Synchronized Competitors, the Ocean Blades, and regional, sectional, national, and international medalists.

The ceremony will take place starting at 5:30 p.m.

Narragansett Bay Symphony Community Orchestra Concert at St. Peter’s By the Sea Episcopal Church

The orchestra will be performing Fantasia on a Theme and Fantasia on Greensleeves by Ralph Vaughn Williams. 

The wind section of the orchestra will be featured in Richard Strauss’ Serenade for Winds. Op. No. 7. 

The main performance of the afternoon is The Reformation Symphony No. 5 by Felix Mendelssohn.
