Former State Rep. Aaron Regunberg

Online enthusiasts everywhere must have been disappointed after eagerly clicking on stories that promised to show a truck “striking,” “plowing,” and “ramming” a crowd of protesters, only to discover a large vehicle’s dull shove through a frenzied mob of leftists attempting to barricade the parking lot of the Wyatt Detention Center in Central Falls last week – a facility that currently houses over 100 illegal aliens.

Not that anyone could surmise from the headlines that topped popular media sites, but an actual examination of the video evidence reveals a vehicle – driven by Captain Thomas Woodworth – in complete control as it crept toward a string of demonstrators being shepherded by Never Again, a nationwide outfit of Jewish organizers aiming to help the undocumented skirt immigration law.

Woodworth’s blaring horn was the most violent portion of the initial encounter.

After “stopping just short of the protesters” – as was originally reported – Woodworth would carefully push his truck against several standing individuals, but only after dozens of demonics began to surround and assault his vehicle. Wyatt guards arrived soon after to find Woodworth’s truck still surrounded and obstructed. They were ultimately compelled to use pepper spray to disperse a defiant crowd that could no longer be mistaken for “peaceful” – as spokesmen for Never Again continue to insist.

Advantage In The Aftermath

The progressive drama queens outside of Wyatt immediately began to exploit the incident in order to further their agenda and validate their activism, primarily by advancing the idea that the enforcement of current immigration law is akin to Nazism.

It follows that Wyatt and state lawmakers should comply with the demands of Never Again, which include “the closing of the Wyatt entirely,” the banning of any “collaboration and cooperation with ICE in any form,” “an end to all detention and deportation,” “the immediate legalization for all 11 million undocumented immigrants,” and “the immediate release of all people being held in ICE detention at the Wyatt” – no matter the circumstances concerning their apprehension (violent crime, etc).

After establishing a false public impression of Woodworth’s altercation with the protesters, lead organizer Matt Harvey would attempt to conflate one officer’s personal actions with institutional policy, describing Woodworth’s behavior as a “shocking and ugly example of the violence that is an integral part of American immigration policy right now.”

According to the RI Chapter of the ACLU, the “completely unacceptable use of force” was a clear “attempt to chill the exercise of First Amendment rights by hundreds of peaceful protesters.”

Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza (D) characterized the episode as an “attack on the innocent lives of those they are supposed to protect.”

And former state representative and socialist Democrat Aaron Regunberg wasted no time capitalizing on the skirmish, rushing to Facebook that night in order to inform the public that “a captain from the Wyatt drove into a line of peaceful protesters … Then prison guards pepper-sprayed us. If they’ll do this to us, think about the violence that immigrant detainees are subject to every day … This is why we’re here. No system this violent can be allowed to continue.”

That’s the libelous leap Regunberg would like everyone to make with him.

In addition to the evidence-free accusations against Wyatt officers, Regunberg would proceed to flat-out lie during an MSNBC appearance that asked him to detail what occurred that night, informing the public that Woodworth’s truck had “hit several people” as it “initially drove up” to the protesters.

These are the petty falsehoods that Regunberg considers vital to disseminate in order to control the narrative regarding immigration enforcement – or what Regunberg refers to as “state-sponsored violence” inside America’s “concentration camps” as a result of “Donald Trump’s deportation machine.”

The Radical Ethic

Fortunately, just a bit of context alongside an accurate description of last week’s encounter causes decent people to wonder if they would have driven their vehicle in the exact same manner as Capt. Woodworth did that night. After all, the insufferable rabble blocking Woodworth’s ability to go to work represented the same people who had been publicly besmirching his character for months, as they openly compared Wyatt guards to Auschwitz administrators.

During the encounter, the protesters continued their disparagement of Wyatt employees. While some of them swarmed and pounded on Woodworth’s vehicle, others chanted “Nazi, Nazi, you can’t hide! You support genocide!” At a subsequent rally following the incident, one speaker told the crowd that he “chose to go [to the protest] because I see the parallel between what’s happening now, and the Holocaust.” And Matt Harvey publicly suggested the racism of all Wyatt guards: “If this is what he’s willing to do to a crowd of mostly white protesters in front of cameras, just imagine what’s happening inside that prison where no one’s watching.”

Just some really fine folks. Truly.

What are we to make of progressive agitators who spin such a toxic environment, orchestrate a human barricade designed to taunt and test people’s patience, and then instruct others to take their positions on the front lines, where they will eventually be forced to confront the fury and frustration of burly prison guards?

As the ACLU reported after an interview with Harvey, “Anticipating a shift change by guards, around 30 members of [Never Again] moved to block the main parking lot used by employees of the prison at around 9 pm.”

In their attempt to solidify a reputation of cruelty for Wyatt officers, Never Again spokesmen were quick to highlight the fact that several individuals were hospitalized as a result of the scuffle – including a 64-year-old man.

During his MSNBC interview, Regunberg made certain to report and lament the fact that Woodworth had driven “his truck into a line of peaceful demonstrators that included three minors … seniors and elders.”

But exactly who placed the most fragile among them at the forefront of an environment intended to maximize the chances of a violent encounter with men Regunberg considers to have the moral temperament of Auschwitz prison guards?

If anyone sent an old man to the hospital that night, it was Aaron Regunberg – a fraudulent instigator; a professional liar.

Regunberg would like everyone to think otherwise, but it’s hardly “nonviolent” to stand in someone’s natural path, and then dare him to strike you when he approaches.

Regunberg would also like nothing more than to have people forget that deception and false accusations are hardly nonviolent as well. They are almost always an impetus to conflict.

There’s plenty of room for discussion within the nation’s ongoing immigration debate. It’s a complicated mess. And the actions of Capt. Woodworth are certainly open to criticism. But outside of Wyatt last Wednesday night was just another shining example of the leftist ethic, primarily seen within the radical willingness of progressives (with a preordained immigration agenda) to lie and aggress – and then play the part of the victim before a sympathetic media.

And there’s nothing “peaceful” about it.
