With Rhode Island School of Design around the corner and lots of homegrown talent in the Capital City, Providence has never been shy about fashion. It is the reason why, since 2009, the city has hosted a rock-solid style week of its own. This year's event, StyleWeek Northeast, promises to give us what we style-lovers crave: local, fresh, creative, accessible fashion with a dollop of theatrical pageantry to go with it.

Variety

According to StyleWeek's public relations manager, Makara Chan, this year's fashion phenomena has a "no diva policy". Simply put, the event offers a chance for all manner of designers to participate - no matter what the couturier's individual style perception is. This is not to say there weren't criteria in place for snagging a coveted spot in the week-long line-up, but all 15 paricipating designers were encouraged to follow their own brand of passion and vision straight to the catwalk. Chan states that StyleWeek Northeast's main goal is to expose some untapped and emerging talent right from our little corner of the world.

Continuing the variety-as-the-spice-of-life theme, all are welcome to attend. You don't have to be in the "biz" to buy a ticket and watch this parade - anyone who loves clothes is invited to take in a fashion show or three, as each night will showcase three separate designers.

Venue

StyleWeek Northeast has moved this year to the newly-renovated and luxurious ballroom at ProvidenceG in one of Providence's most iconic buildings. The wide-openess of the ballroom vows to "let creativity run wild", according to Chan who said the space is both urbane and sophisticated. After-show nightcaps can be enjoyed at the ProvidenceG's rooftop bar along with an awe-inspiring view. Elbow-rubbing with the designers, models, and the supporting hair and beauty participants will only add to the effervescence and make each sparkling night one to long remember.

Etcetera, etcetera...

In addition to the nightly fashion shows, there will be an ongoing accessory showcase and cocktail hour each night at 82 Weybosset St. Here, artisans from across the country will offer an intimate glimpse into the latest trends in jewelry and fashion accessories. You can shop, network, see and be seen, as well as savor a cocktail before each show.
